Other key components that will make your home green may include any of the following:

Energy Efficiency

Use ENERGY STAR rated appliances, windows or water heating systems to reduce overall energy consumption within your home. Other items that may be included are efficient lighting fixtures and compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs.

Water Effiency

Use fixtures and appliances such as low-flow or water restricted showerheads, faucets and toilets. ENERGY SATR dishwashers and washing machines are terrific items to conserve water usage. For your outdoor areas consider using programmable irrigation systems and rainwater collection systems.

Inside the Home

Properly size your heating, air conditioning and ventilation system (HVAC) to insure an efficient and properly ventilated home. Installing ceiling fans in all of your rooms to circulate the air and reduce the immediate need of heat or cooling. Use Low-VOC paints when considering it' time to redecorate. Insulate all hot water lines with a minimum of one-inch foam insulation. Install a bathroom exhaust fan timer. Change your air conditioning filter frequently.

Outside the Home

Preserve trees and vegetation that is negative to your area. When landscaping, use plants that are appropriate for the climate and try to group these plants according to watering needs. Install motion sensors and all outdoor lighting fixtures.
